New album “Circle” out April 19!
The 11th Amorphis album will be titled “Circle” and is set to be released on April 19, 2013 via Nuclear Blast.
The concept of “Circle” is a story that spreads through all of the album’s lyrics, written by long-standing collaborator Pekka Kainulainen. Here is a short summary:
“The protagonist has been dealt a bad hand at birth. He’s always felt himself an outsider with strong potential to become marginalized. Through an accident, after a crisis, he finds a connection with his inner powers. A guide is sent to him, from some other time and place. He gets a chance to take hold of his own life and change his destiny. From the past of Carelian Finland he finds his own spiritual tribe and the power to turn the course of his doomed life. This is a story of survival.”
As for the album’s title, Tomi Joutsen adds: “Circle represents integrity. Back in the days, when there was something special to talk about, wise men used to sit in a circle. Not everyone was invited to join them. But in this story, the protagonist was invited among the wise men’s circle.”

The new album will be produced and recorded by Peter Tägtgren (Abyss Studio, Hypocrisy, Pain et al.) and released worldwide by Nuclear Blast in spring 2013.

Concert hall tour in Finland
In April, Amorphis will perform at several classical concert halls in major Finnish towns. The band wants to offer its fans a chance of hearing Amorphis in an environment very different from the usual. After the recent tours abroad, the concert hall tour means charting an entirely new territory.
Esa Holopainen sheds some light on what is to be expected: “The shows will include songs we have not played in a long time as well as acoustic arrangements of our better-known tunes. However, it is not going to be a completely acoustic set. We have toured full power for quite a few years now, and with this concert hall setting and the new repertoire, we want to challenge not only our listeners but also ourselves. We noticed that in fact we have rather many songs that are acoustic or feature plenty of acoustic instruments in their compositions.
The concerts will include several guests, of which at least multi- instrumentalist Sakari Kukko is well known to many. Sakari has performed with Amorphis on earlier occasions and also played on the albums Tuonela and Am Universum.”
